Synopsis
The play is a three-act drama which takes place on a single night: 5 April 1912.The play focuses on the prosperous upper middle-class Birling family, who live in a comfortable home in the fictional town of Brumley. The family is visited by a man calling himself Inspector Goole, who questions the family about the suicide of a young working-class woman in her mid-twenties.
Cast
Arthur Birling, solid patriarch of the Birling family. Arthur is a “rather portentous” man “in his fifties” who owns a profitable manufacturing company.
Sybil Birling, solid matriarch of the Birling family.
Sheila Birling, nervous young daughter of Arthur and Sybil. Sheila, “in her early twenties,” is engaged to Gerald
Eric Birling, nervous son of Arthur and Sybil, and older brother of Sheila
Gerald Croft, salt of the earth young man, fiancé to Sheila, and son of another prominent manufacturing family.
Inspector Goole, representative of the local police force, sent to investigate Eva Smith/Daisy Renton’s suicide.
Edna, plain Birlings’ maid.

By car
We recommend coming to the CPO by public transport as parking can be difficult. The nearest public car park is at the Hotel Savoy, just opposite the CPO, or Ouchy (Park & Ride) & then a 10mn walk or 2 stops on the Métro. Street parking in blue zones is possible but not always available.
